SPIKE (Forward Firing Miniature Munition or F2M2) is a miniature, self-guided, high-precision, lightweight, moderate-range, low-cost, fire-&-forget missile. It was prototyped and tested by the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) at China Lake, CA.
SPIKE was developed to prepare for the eventual evolution of arming small and unmanned systems with ultralight missiles and to give war fighters in the field an ultra portable, high-precision capability without prohibitive expense to produce and field in high-volume.
SPIKE is currently launched from a ground-based trainable mount or from an airborne drone at stationary or moving soft and moderately hard targets on the ground, sea, or in air. It was successfully tested with a high hit rate and high accuracy via the onboard optical seeker.
SMC is uniquely positioned to transform the already prototyped and tested SPIKE missile into an off-the-shelf weapon that directly addresses currently unmet operational needs. SMC has the technical knowledge and small business agility to rapidly modernize and produce SPIKE.
SMC has existing agreements with the US Navy and NAWCWD to include exclusive license for all SPIKE intellectual property. SMC also established a network of small business innovators in aerospace 3D printing, digital manufacturing, and various materials suppliers for SPIKE.
SMC plans to modernize SPIKE with additional capabilities to expand its operational utility to include shoulder-launch capability, various sizes and guidance options, and a selection of warheads to meet future mission needs while continuing to reduce costs.
Discussing the concept of SPIKE as well as SMC's planned capabilities evolution and future production goals for the system.
It includes test footage of ground, sea, and air launches against stationary and moving targets with a high rate of success.
